And yet, much written on the topic of Earth Day is a total snooze. It’s ironic. How can something as lush, alive, colorful, sensual and dynamic as Earth ever be rendered dull?
Maybe it’s the guilt-slinging To-Do List that’s inevitably central to the topic. You know… “Use only one square of toilet paper to save trees, don’t keep the water running while you brush your teeth and compost your fish bones.” What a drag. And yet, so is doing laundry. And changing the oil in your car. And paying taxes. We do what we gotta do and we gotta take care of the Earth, just as surely as we take care of ourselves, our homes, our children, our pets and our stuff.
Every time we decide to pick up a gum wrapper, we honor Earth in gratitude. These little acts show respect, responsibility and care for this glorious grass carpeted living room we share. So, as for the boring bit, let’s agree to suck it up and do the right thing. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and all that jazz. I trust you to do your part and you can trust me to do mine. Done.
And now that we have that out of the way, let’s celebrate this planetary playground. Have an eco-friendly picnic dinner, go for a hike, build a sand castle, go surfing, mountain bike, roll around in an open meadow, bird watch, plant tomatoes, stroll through the park, watch the sun set, star gaze, or just sit in your backyard and stare. Stay in awe, my friends.
Here’s a little something to get your Earth Day groove on:
Thank you for all you do to take care of this Earth! Rock on.
