I stepped away from my computer to savor a breath of crisp November air and found myself collecting fallen leaves from the California Sycamore Tree. As I continued to seek out the most beautiful shapes and colors–where mustard, crimson and burnt orange bled together seamlessly–I realized in a flash that I had gone temporarily sane.
Nature beckons us seductively to pay attention. She courts us with her pulsing life–rendered in invitingly rich hues, velvety textures and and sweet scents. Can we stay awake to the wonderland we live within? Is it possible to have one foot in reality, while keeping the other squarely grounded in the mystery? That is my experiment. Join me?
Faith,
Yes, I will join you:-) Glad that you have a chance to take a moment and admire the beauty of nature. How relaxing 🙂 Well, what I do to take a break from studying, is sitting on my balcony with my head in the clouds 🙂
I think it is possible to have one foot in reality and keep the other in mystery. But it’s up to us, how often and for how long do we want to “dive” there totally, and free ourselves from any disturbance.
There is magic all around us, though, being too grounded, we may not notice it. It had lately happened to me too, when driving on a rainy day, and getting irritated by careless drivers (in my opinion ;-), and thinking ‘what an ugly weather’! But then I noticed a beautiful rainbow on the sky, just in front of me – it was magical!
I like what Albert Einstein stated once: “Life is a mystery, not a problem to be solved”. So grounded or with a head in the sky, we should “Live every act fully, as if it were our last” (Buddha).
Have a magical day!
