There’s a lot to love about SF Pride, but what comes to mind– other than an excuse to day drink– is authenticity. Watching masses of people come together to honor individual truth is exhilarating. Conformity takes a backseat to diversity as rainbows, flags and flamboyance adorn Market Street. The message is unmistakable: “Here’s who I am, here’s what I’m about, here’s who I love and here’s what’s up.” Snap.
Pride can serve as a reminder to all of us to lead with inner truth. It’s easy to get caught up in what others think and cater to what they expect. But in doing so, we lose sight of our highest potential and obscure our contribution. Each of us has a divine purpose. Each of us is meant to shine. Each of us has an inspired self to answer to. Only when we live from the inside out, can we heed the call to be all that we are meant to be.
We’re like the facets of a mind-blowingly brilliant disco ball. When each of us shines our brightest, we reflect more light for the whole. Imagine a planet as dazzling as that. I’ll polish my facet if you’ll polish yours.
“If you want to awaken all of humanity, then awaken all of yourself. If you want to eliminate the suffering in the world, then eliminate all that is dark and negative in yourself. Truly, the greatest gift you have to give is that of your own self-transformation.” –Lao Tzu.
Happy Pride, party people. Be all you, all the way, every single sparkling day. And when faced with the choice to play small or shine– give us good reason to rock the shades.
