freedigitalimagesIt’s Independence Day. From sea to shining sea, we celebrate with fireworks, barbecue and red, white & blue. But how well do we embody independence when it comes down to me and you? Isn’t that what it’s all about, after all?  You’re free to be you and I’m free to be me. It’s not just time to unite, it’s time to ignite! When each of us shines brightly, we create a spectacular show.

Here are some thought provoking quotes about independence, hand picked to help you get your authenticity on:

“To be nobody but yourself- in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else- means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight, and never stop fighting.” – e.e. cummings

Who says the masses have it right and you’re wrong? What if it’s the other way around? What if you’re the leader the world is waiting for?

“Individualism is rather like innocence; there must be something unconscious about it.” – Louis Kronenberger

Don’t overthink being you. Just do what rings true. Individualism often looks ridiculous. But the risk of humiliation makes it all the more inspiring.

“I think Dostoevsky was right, that every human being must have a point at which he stands against the culture, where he says, this is me and the damned world can go to hell.” – Rollo May

Are you prepared to be your authentic self against all odds? That’s the only way you’ll be very interesting. Or fulfilled.

“Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Go ahead, shine! Stand out. Explode into the stratosphere. We want to see just how you you can be. Boom. Wow. Now that’s the show you signed up for.

Do it. Dare ya!

And in honor of Independence Day, here’s a ridiculous quote from me:

Independence is to people like water is to houseplants. If you don’t get enough, you dry up.

Happy July 4th. As you celebrate our free country, enjoy doing so in your own unique way. Wild salmon burger anyone?
